Spotlight on Stewards

The Jonk siblings aren’t certain why their family chose Holy Family Parish when they moved to North Dakota four years ago. They’re very happy with the decision now, though. Yeison (18), Ivan (17), and Tatiana (15), with the urging of their mother, Yvonne, have become extraordinarily active in our church community, and as a result, they are exceptional volunteers in many areas of their personal lives, also. The Jonks started out by cleaning tables at the spaghetti dinner, then serving donuts and coffee after mass, and later participating as altar servers. “People see that we are active, so I think it makes it easy for them to ask if we will help out in other ways,” says Yeison. “We like to help people,” adds Ivan, “so we always say ‘sure!’” The siblings recently attended the National Catholic Youth Conference in Indianapolis and joined teens from throughout North Dakota to undertake the 16 hour bus trip. They agree that the most significant part of the conference was celebrating the final mass with 25,000 people in attendance at a stadium venue. “The music was great,” says Tatianna. “It was a life changing experience and we’re already planning to attend next time.”
